Cycle World's road test of the original '86 Savage indicated:

a) max torque of 41 ft.lbs. at 3000 rpm
b) max horsepower of 33hp at 5000 rpm
c) redline at 6500 rpm

The CDI in the LS is apparently supposed to clip at 6500rpm so it can't be over-revved. For daily riding, these bikes move forward nicely if you shift quickly at the torque peak. They don't seem to do much close to the redline, except make a lot of noise.

What kind of tach are you using and where did you find it?
